DENVER — More than 1,000 flights were delayed or canceled Saturday at Colorado's biggest airport as winter weather conditions roll in for the Denver metro area.
A total of 982 flights were delayed and 175 were canceled at Denver International Airport (DIA), according to FlightAware.
Impacted airlines included United, Southwest, SkyWest, CommuteAir, Mesa, Delta, Frontier and Air Canada.
Rain and snow moved into the Denver metro area Saturday morning, leaving significant snow accumulations. Colorado's mountains have received more than a foot of snow in some areas.

What is Severe Weather?
According to the National Weather Service, there are five specific types of weather that can qualify as "severe." They are tornadoes, floods, lightning, hail and wind.
A thunderstorm is considered severe when winds reach at least 58 mph and/or contains hail at least 1" in diameter. When these conditions are met, the NWS will issue a severe thunderstorm warning.
How is hail formed?
Lightning and heavy rain are not included, but often accompany severe thunderstorms.
