DENVER β Colorado's busiest airport is opening its first new security checkpoint in decades.
Denver International Airport (DIA) is preparing to open its new West Security Checkpoint.
A major milestone in the Great Hall airport renovation project, the new state-of-the-art checkpoint is scheduled to open Tuesday, Feb. 6.
The checkpoint is located on the airport's six floor between Southwest and United Airlines. It will serve those with TSA Pre-Check, Clear and DEN Reserve.
Under construction for more than two years, the new checkpoint features 17 lanes with the latest security screening technology including facial-recognition and digital ID technology. The checkpoint will also have automatic bins, so TSA workers and travelers don't have to move them.
The west checkpoint joins the north, south and bridge security checkpoints at DIA. However, the north checkpoint will close next as the airport prepares to construct the East Security Checkpoint, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.
