DIA trains now fully operational after mechanical issue, airport says

The airport said around 5 p.m. that the trains were fully operational.

DENVER — The trains between concourses at Denver International Airport are back to full capacity after a mechanical issue caused delays Wednesday afternoon, the airport said.

"At 2:42 p.m. there was a mechanical issue causing all trains to briefly stop," the airport said in a social media post at 3:42 p.m. "Trains have resumed at limited capacity. Technicians are working diligently to resolve the issue."

The airport said around 5 p.m. that the trains were fully operational.

Former 9NEWS Medical Expert Dr. Comilla Sasson was caught up in the delays. She shared photos and video showing people backed up and waiting in long lines to get on the train in the B concourse. Sasson said it took her about an hour and 20 minutes to get from her gate to the terminal.

The airport said departing passengers were being metered through security checkpoints. At 5 p.m., the airport said the TSA has added additional staffing to the security checkpoints and "lines are now moving more efficiently."

As of 5 p.m., the airport's website reported wait times of about an hour at the West checkpoint, and about a half hour at the South checkpoint.

9NEWS has reached out to the airport for more information about the mechanical issue. We'll update this story when we hear back.
