DENVER — A record number of passengers came through Denver International Airport in 2023, the airport reported.
Airlines served 77,837,917 passengers at DIA last year, the airport said. That's a 12.3% increase over the 69,286,461 passengers served in 2022, which was the previous record year.
This was the first year in history that the airport served more than 70 million passengers.
DIA said in addition to the annual record, each month set an all-time record in terms of passenger traffic volume for that month.
July was the airport's first-ever month with more than seven million passengers, and now ranks as the airport's busiest month ever. October and August were DIA's second- and third-busiest months ever, the airport said.
DIA said connecting passengers accounted for most of this growth. The number of passengers connecting through the airport increased 35.7% from 2019, the airport said.
Last year was also the first year in history that the airport exceeded 4 million international passengers.
The airport said United Airlines served more than 36 million passengers in 2023, for 46.8% of total DEN market share. Southwest exceeded 24 million passengers, for 30.9% of market share. The airport's third-largest carrier, Frontier, served more than 7.5 million passengers, accounting for 9.6% of total market share.
