DENVER — Denver International Airport said baggage screening issues were causing delays on Sunday.
DIA said issues that began around 8:30 a.m. related to baggage screening led to processing delays that impacted customers. The airport said airline and airport staff coordinated to resolve the issues and continued to process baggage.
At 11:23 a.m., DIA said passengers flying United Airlines or Aeroméxico in particular were encouraged to arrive early and allow more time to check baggage.
Around 2:30 p.m., DIA said United and Southwest Airlines passengers were still being impacted.
The airport said the baggage screening system returned to normal operations around 4 p.m.
On Monday, an airport spokesperson said the issues were caused by a software problem that "affected our ability to properly sort and route bags." About 2,000 pieces of luggage did not make flights, while about 40,000 to 50,000 passed through the baggage system successfully.
The airport's engineers were continuing to work on the problem, the spokesperson said.
DIA said it typically handles anywhere from 1,700 to 2,000 flights on any given day.
