PIERCE, Colo. — A child was killed in a crash involving a train and a car in Weld County Saturday morning.
Colorado State Patrol said troopers responded at 10:12 a.m. to Weld County Road 88 just east of Highway 85.
The 26-year-old woman driving the car went through a stop sign, which resulted in the train hitting the rear end of the car, according to CSP. A family member told 9NEWS the road wasn't plowed and the driver was unable to stop because of ice and snow. She slid into the crossing and was unable to move the car, the family member said.
A 4-year-old child was taken to the hospital, where they died. A 2-year-old child was also transported with serious injuries.
The driver and a 26-year-old Ault man in the passenger seat suffered minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, CSP said. Alcohol, drugs and speed are not believed to be factors in the crash.
