GRAND COUNTY, Colo. — Berthoud Pass along US 40 will close overnight Saturday while crews perform winter maintenance.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) said the closure between Berthoud Pass and Winter Park is scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. and end at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday in time for ski traffic.

The closure could begin earlier than 11 p.m. Saturday, depending on the weather.

"Due to anticipated heavy snow totals over 15 inches and low visibility, a safety closure will be necessary overnight so that crews can safely conduct winter maintenance operations," CDOT said in a release.

Bethord Pass was previously closed on Jan. 14 due to an avalanche and didn't reopen until Jan. 18. CDOT said ten cars were caught in the slide, but no injuries were reported.
