6 Colorado towns among the '100 Best Small Towns'

Livability.com ranked the 100 best small town in the United States and six Colorado towns are on the list.

ID=24180439KUSA - Livability.com ranked the 100 best small town in the United States, and six Colorado towns are on the list.

Livability.com created the list by examining more than 40 data point for more than 12,000 towns with populations between 1,000 and 20,000. The 40 data points were broken down into eight categories including: economy, housing, health care, social and civic capital, education, amenities, demographics and infrastructure.

Six Colorado towns made the list, with three in the top 25:

  • Durango is No. 3. Livability.com says Durango's closeness to the San Juan Mountains give people access to hiking, camping, kayaking and other outdoor activities.
  • Louisville is No. 6. The town's galleries, studios, restaurants, music venues and vintage buildings make this town appealing.
  • Golden is No. 25 on the list. Golden is home to Coors Brewing and the School of Mines. Livability.com says it still maintains a small-town historic feel.
  • Breckenridge is No. 27. In addition to skiing, Breckenridge has a lot of outdoor activities and plenty of shopping on Main Street.
  • Glenwood Springs comes in at No. 53. Livability.com says that in 2015, Glenwood Springs was recognized for having the Most Vibrant Small-Town Arts Environment in America by the National Council for Arts Research. The hot springs, hiking and breweries are also a major highlight for Glenwood Springs.
  • Aspen is No. 64. In addition to the four ski resorts, Aspen offers highly ranked schools, parks and downtown shopping district. Great fishing and hiking trails also make Aspen one of the best small towns.
