Driver killed after crash on I-70 involving semi truck

The westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near Peña Boulevard were closed for hours during the morning commute but have since reopened.

DENVER — One person was killed in a crash early Thursday morning in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near Chambers Road, according to the Aurora Police Department.

The westbound lanes of the highway were closed in that area around 5:15 a.m. due to the crash and reopened around 9 a.m.

A man driving a Toyota Prius crashed into the back of a semi-truck. The driver of the Prius was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt, according to an Aurora Police Department spokeswoman.

No one else was in either vehicle. Police believe speed likely played a role in the crash.
