WELD COUNTY, Colo. — Three people, at least two of them teenagers, died in two crashes in Weld County within the span of six hours Saturday night, according to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).
The first crash was reported at 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of Weld County roads 73 and 16, east of Keenesburg.
CSP said in that incident, a southbound pickup collided with a westbound van that had run a stop sign. Armando Geraldo-Quiahua, who was a passenger in the backseat of the truck, was killed. A 17-year-old male passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The 19-year-old male driver was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, and a 25-year-old male passenger had minor injuries and did not go to the hospital.
The 42-year-old man driving the pickup had minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital, according to CSP.
The second crash was reported at 11:52 p.m. on Weld County Road 39 just south of Weld County Road 66, about 2 miles north of Greeley.
The pickup was going south on WCR 39 when it went off the side of the road and into a ditch. The vehicle rolled and hit a power pole, said a CSP spokesperson.
The driver and passenger were both ejected from the vehicle and died on scene. Speed and alcohol are suspected as factors in the crash, the CSP spokesperson said.
The driver was identified as Ivan Dominguez-Castillo, 18, of Evans, and the passenger was Cesar Madera, 17, of LaSalle.
Roads were closed for several hours for the investigation but were back open by 8 a.m. Sunday.
