AVON, Colo. — One lane of eastbound Interstate 70 is back open after a multi-semi crash Friday morning near Avon.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) said eastbound I-70 was closed between Exit 163 (Edwards) and Exit 167 (Avon). At 10:47 a.m., the left lane was reopened.

An eastbound detour was in place via Exit 163 on U.S. Highway 6 to Avon.

Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said it responded to I-70 around milepost 163 at 4:30 a.m. Friday after a report of a multi-semi crash.

CSP said two semi trucks were involved in the collision. One truck was going west when the driver went through the left shoulder barrier and into the eastbound lanes, where it collided with a semi truck going east.

There were two occupants in the eastbound truck, and both were transported to a hospital, CSP said. Their conditions are unknown. There is no reported injury to the westbound driver, according to CSP.

CSP investigators suspect fatigue in the crash but said they are investigating all possible causes before completing the investigation and issuing any charges.
