KUSA – Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon will remain closed through Thursday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

CDOT says the projected opening of the highway is this weekend. CDOT is working on repairs on the roadway including installing fencing and bringing down rocks. CDOT says snowy weather is slowing down progress.

According to CDOT, there was another rock fall in the area. CDOT says additional fencing is being installed to protect motorists and they are actively monitoring the area.

When Interstate 70 reopens, traffic will alternate between east and westbound traffic on the east side with a pilot car leading the way. CDOT says alternating could last several days and drivers should expect delays.

A rock slide on Monday night left the highway severely damaged. The closure starts west of Hanging Lake Tunnel and continues eight miles east to Glenwood Springs.
