DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — Southbound lanes of Interstate 25 north of Larkspur were closed Wednesday afternoon as crews responded to a hazmat call involving radioactive material.
A road density gauge fell off a truck in the area and broke open, exposing radioactive material used in the gauge, according to Master Trooper Cutler with Colorado State Patrol (CSP).
Crews were called to the area around 11:38 a.m., Cutler said. Southbound traffic was stopped at exit 174, just north of Larkspur as crews worked to recover the gauge and clean up the material, Cutler said.
At 2:32 p.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) tweeted the interstate had reopened.
