THORNTON, Colo. — One person was killed in a crash at Interstate 25 and 84th Avenue Thursday morning, the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said.
The crash happened around 10:50 a.m. Troopers said it involved a Honda Accord and a tanker that was hauling liquid nitrogen.
Firefighters said the driver of the car died on the scene. A child passenger was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries, according to CSP.
The crash happened on northbound I-25 just south of 84th Avenue. The two right lanes of northbound I-25 were closed for several hours while crews responded.
Earlier Thursday morning, Interstate 25 was closed in both directions due to another crash in the Thornton area.
Police closed the interstate between 84th Avenue and Thornton Parkway while crews conducted a chemical cleanup after that crash, which happened around 2:30 a.m. That closure was lifted before 9 a.m.
Police said in an update around 4:20 a.m. that the 84th Avenue overpass was also closed over I-25 due to that crash and cleanup.
One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after that crash, according to Adams County Fire.
