GILPIN COUNTY, Colo. — A train derailment Sunday morning in Gilpin County has caused delays for trains through Colorado.
The derailment happened just before 7 a.m. Sunday, a few miles southeast of Nederland, according to the Gilpin County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said nobody was hurt and there is no environment risk from the damaged cars.
The tracks are shared by frieght trains and Amtrak's California Zepher line.
At least one Amtrak train had to stay overnight in Grand Junction due to the derailment. Amtrak said they have an alternative transportation route in place as crews clear and repair the track.
It will be a few days before rail traffic is back to normal, according to the sheriff's office.
