DENVER — The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Colorado has increased 83 cents over the last month and 31 cents in one week.
The average price for a gallon of gas is $3.65 in Colorado as of Monday, Jan. 23, according to new numbers from AAA Colorado.
Gas in Colorado is now 36 cents higher than one year ago. The statewide average was $3.64 on Sunday, $3.34 last Monday, and $2.82 one month ago.
The price of a gallon of diesel is $4.60, up from $4.33 one month ago and $3.41 a year ago.
The national average for a gallon of unleaded gas is $3.42 as of Monday, Jan. 23, 23 cents less than Colorado.
Average gasoline prices in Fort Collins have risen 40.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.64 on Monday, according to GasBuddy's survey of 119 stations in Fort Collins.
"Gasoline prices continued their upward trajectory last week as oil prices pulled them higher across the majority of the country, and continued refinery challenges kept supply of gasoline from rising more substantially," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
Prices in Fort Collins are 88 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 37 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
"Macroeconomic factors have continued to weigh on oil and refined products, as strong demand in China hasn't been slowed much by a surge in new Covid cases," De Haan said. "In addition, releases of crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve have wrapped up. Concerns are increasing that without additional oil, supply will tighten in the weeks ahead, especially as the nation starts to move away from softer demand in the height of winter. Moving forward, it doesn't look good for motorists, with prices likely to continue accelerating."
