WELLINGTON, Colo. — Interstate 25 was closed in both directions for about two hours in northern Colorado after a crash involving a car and two semi-trucks on I-25 Wednesday.
The Colorado State Patrol said they responded to a report of a head-on collision on I-25 near Wellington at 1:46 p.m. That part of the interstate is under construction, so both directions of traffic are sharing the northbound lanes.
Troopers determined that a 65-year-old woman driving south lost control of her car and went off the right side of the road into the median. CSP said the car went back onto the highway and crashed into the side of a northbound semi. The car then spun into a second northbound semi that was following the first one.
The woman was flown via helicopter to the hospital with serious injuries. Both semi-drivers said they were not hurt.
Investigators do not suspect impairment — they said a medical event could have caused the crash.
The interstate reopened at around 3:45 p.m.
