DENVER — A series of bridges in downtown Denver are receiving some preventative maintenance.
The work will begin this week along Speer Boulevard, just north of downtown, on the bridges over the railroad tracks, according to Denver's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI).
Work on the bridge over the railroad tracks will include milling and overlaying fresh asphalt over the bridge, removal and replacement of bridge deck waterproofing membrane, bridge deck repairs, removal and replacement of bridge expansion joints, backwall repairs and final striping.
Drivers should anticipate double right lane closures on northbound Speer Boulevard between Interstate 25 and Auraria Parkway. After the NBA/NHL playoffs, there will be double right lane closures on southbound Speer, DOTI said.
In mid- to late summer, after work is complete in the right lanes, work will shift to the left lanes, and drivers should anticipate double left lane closures into fall on northbound and southbound Speer, between I-25 and Auraria Parkway.
According to DOTI, at least two travel lanes will remain open in each direction for the duration of the project, which is expected to end in late fall 2024.
Sidewalk closures will route people to the Cherry Creek Trail as needed.
Last year, Denver completed preventive maintenance on two other Speer Boulevard bridges – one over the South Platte River and one over Little Raven Street. Crews paused work over the winter.
