AURORA, Colo. — Nine people were hurt after a stolen truck occupied by seven juveniles ran a red light and hit three other vehicles at the intersection of East 6th Avenue and North Sable Boulevard in Aurora Wednesday afternoon, according to the Aurora Police Department (APD).
The crash happened around noon and as a result, East 6th Avenue was closed in both directions between Sable Boulevard and Billings Street was closed for several hours.
Shortly before the crash, APD officers in the area of East Mississippi Avenue and North Sable Boulevard saw a pickup truck and recognized that it was stolen in a burglary Tuesday.
The truck keys were taken from an unsecured locker at the Morehead Recreation Center, according to APD.

The officers were in an unmarked car and began following the vehicle without lights and sirens. As they were doing so, the stolen vehicle was involved in a crash, according to police. Officers had not yet initiated a traffic stop and were not pursuing the vehicle when it crashed, APD said.
The driver of the stolen truck, a 2010 Toyota Tacoma, ran the red light at East 6th Avenue and North Sable Boulevard, APD said. The pickup truck struck an RTD bus, another pickup truck, and an Aurora City Parks and Recreation vehicle.
As a result of the impact, the stolen pickup truck rolled struck a power box and came to rest in the ditch just north of East 6th Avenue and North Dillon Way, according to police.
There were seven juvenile passengers in the stolen pickup truck. Multiple people had to be extricated from the stolen pickup truck. In all nine people injured, seven of them had minor injuries. One person had serious injuries and one person was critically injured.
The damage to the power box caused power outages in the area.
Aurora Police Department Traffic Investigators are handling to determine what charges are appropriate.
