ARVADA - Two people are in the hospital and one person has died after a crash late Sunday night near West 80th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.
According to Arvada Police, the crash happened just after 10 p.m. The driver of a silver Jeep was driving south on Sheridan Boulevard when he ran a red light at West 80th Avenue and crashed into a Chevy Malibu heading west on West 80th Avenue.
The Malibu was sent over a curb and into a parking lot on the southwest side of the intersection -- about 60 yards from where the crash happened.
The 40-year-old woman driving the Malibu, identified as Monica Zapata, was killed instantly. Her 15-year-old daughter was taken to the hospital. The extent of the daughter's injuries are not known at this time.
The three men in the Jeep took off on foot after the crash. Police found two of them about 2.5 miles away from the scene of the crash. Jose Sandoval Cruz, 24, was the driver and was apprehended by Westminster Police at Highway 36 and Pecos Avenue.
Police are still searching for a third suspect they believe was a passenger in the Jeep.
Police said there are multiple witnesses to the crash. Alcohol is believed to be involved, according to police.
