DENVER — It's football season, and many people are surprised when they turn on the game to find the broadcasters are speaking Spanish, while all the other TV programming is in English.
NBC and other networks offer Spanish-language broadcasts for certain programs and events, including many sporting events. Viewers can use a setting on their TVs to switch between languages.
If you're hearing the broadcast in another language, it's likely a setting on your TV was accidentally changed.
Spanish audio is only offered on some programs, and when Spanish isn't offered, English audio is usually broadcast. That's why you may not notice the setting was changed until you turn on a certain program.
The steps for restoring the broadcast to your preferred language are different on every TV, but there are a few common places to check before breaking out the owner's manual.
First, your remote may have a button labeled "SAP," "MST," or "AUDIO." If so, push that button to cycle through the choices until you find the correct option.
If that doesn't work, try pressing the "MENU" button on your remote and navigating to the audio settings. Find the list of available languages and select the one you'd like.
If the broadcast is still in another language, and you're watching the game on cable, you may need to adjust a setting in your cable box. Using your cable remote, navigate to the menu, then the audio settings. Choose the language you'd like.
If you've checked all of these settings and you're still hearing the game in another language, or if you're having difficulty finding the correct setting on your TV or cable box, refer to the television owner's manual or contact your cable provider.
