Chennedy Carter criticizes Caitlin Clark after foul controversy

"Chennedy got caught up in the heat of the moment in an effort to win the game," Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon said in a statement.

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — While the Indiana Fever were able to break a losing streak in a game against the Chicago Sky on June 1, that's not what's making headlines.

Instead, the biggest story of the game came in the third quarter, when the Sky's Chennedy Carter hip-checked WNBA rookie and 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark. The move was swiftly met with displeasure from the crowd.

While the incident was originally called an away-from-the-ball foul, it was upgraded to a Flagrant 1 foul upon further review from the WNBA.

Reporters attempted to ask Carter about the incident following the game. However, Carter had a short answer: "I ain't answering no Caitlin Clark questions."

Later, however, Carter posted on Threads, writing, "Besides three point shooting, what does [Clark] bring to the table, man?"

The comment garnered hundreds of responses from other users, with many of them bringing up Carter's previous removals from teams, and her stats in the game compared to Clark's.

Chicago Sky Head Coach Teresa Weatherspoon issued a statement in response to the incident, writing in part, "Chennedy got caught up in the heat of the moment in an effort to win the game. She and I have discussed what happened and that it was not appropriate, nor is it what we do or who we are. Chennedy understands that there are better ways to handle situations on the court, and she will learn from this, as we all will."
