USWNT to play friendly against South Korea in Colorado

The game will be played June 1 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in what will be the first match for new head coach Emma Hayes.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) is coming back to Colorado this June for a match against South Korea.

The friendly will be played Saturday, June 1, at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City where the team's new head coach Emma Hayes will make her coaching debut.

The team will then travel to Minneapolis for a rematch against South Korea on June 4 at Allianz Field.

U.S. Soccer said two additional matches for the USWNT will be announced in the coming weeks and will take place in July before the team heads overseas to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“It will be exciting for everyone to have Emma on board for the June games,” said U.S. interim head coach Twila Kilgore, who will join Hayes’ staff as an assistant coach upon her arrival in the USA. “We need as many quality games as we can get heading into the Olympics and Korea Republic will provide good tests.”

Since their first match in 2008, the USWNT has gone unbeaten in eight matches at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The team was last in Commerce City on June 25, 2022, in a 3-0 win over Colombia when Colorado's Sophia Smith scored two goals.

“We're elated to host the return of the U.S. Women’s National Team at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, offering our fans the chance to see the National Team ahead of the Olympics,” said Wayne Brant, Colorado Rapids Chief Business Officer. “With a wealth of Coloradans gracing the team, hosting the U.S. Women's National Team holds profound significance for our state and something we’re eager to explore every year.”

The team currently features three Coloradans in their player pool, including captain Lindsey Horan (Golden), Mallory Swanson (Highlands Ranch) and Smith (Windsor).
