Rapids goalie William Yarbrough traded to San Jose

“We’d like to thank Will for his contributions on and off of the field during his time at the club. We wish him all the best in the future,” the Rapids said.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The Colorado Rapids traded goalkeeper William Yarbrough on Tuesday.

The Rapids said Yarbrough was traded to the San Jose Earthquakes for a third-round pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft.

"We’d like to thank Will for his contributions on and off of the field during his time at the club," Rapids President Pádraig Smith said. "We wish him all the best in the future."

The Rapids said Yarbrough departs as the club's record-holder for the most shutouts in club history (33), ranking third in appearances (101), starts (101), minutes played in goal (9,044), wins (37) and saves (318).

The Mexico native originally joined the Rapids in March 2020 on a one-year loan from Liga MX León before signing a three-year contract with the Rapids in February 2021.

Earlier this month, the Rapids signed former Manchester City Football Club goaltender Zack Steffen to a three-year contract.

The three-year deal also includes a club option for an additional year, the Rapids announced.

Steffen, 28, spent four seasons with Manchester City Football Club in the English Premier League, making 21 appearances for the club.

In order to sign Steffen, Colorado acquired his discovery rights from the New England Revolution in exchange for $50,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money (GAM).

“We are incredibly happy to bring Zack to the club. He is a top player with big experiences, and we know he will add so much to our group. His quality, leadership and winning mentality will help us for years to come,” said Rapids Head Coach, Chris Armas.

Zack is an elite-level goalkeeper with a wealth of experience internationally and in MLS. His exceptional skills, experience, and proven track record make him a valuable addition to our roster,” said Colorado Rapids President Pádraig Smith. “His character and mentality will greatly benefit our team. We’re thrilled to bolster our backline with his signing and look forward to welcoming him to Colorado.”
