WINTER PARK — Winter Park is putting the finishing touches on a new ski lift with big, 10-person gondola cabins. The first of 75 cabins is already on display at the base area.
Skiers and snowboarders will still have to wait a few more weeks to ride it. In the meantime, here are nine tidbits about the gondola.
- It’s Winter Park’s first gondola.
- It will carry up to ten people along with skis and snowboards inside the cabin.
- The gondola will be able to handle 3,600 passengers an hour.
- It replaces the old Zephyr lift which was the main lift at Winter Park for 28 years.
- It’s expected to cost around $18 million.
- It’s part of a $30 million improvement project at Winter Park that’s the biggest summer construction project in the ski area’s history.
- It should be running by Christmas.
- The gondola cabins are around 7 and a half feet deep, 3 and a half feet wide are about 7 and a half feet tall with a 38-inch opening at the door.
- The cabins are being shipped from France.
