GRAND COUNTY, Colo. — A skier has died after attempting a stunt Tuesday on Berthoud Pass.
The Grand County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that dispatchers received a 911 call around 3 p.m. Tuesday reporting a skiing accident on Highway 40, just west of the Berthoud Pass summit.
It was reported that a 21-year-old man was unconscious and not breathing and that a bystander was administering CPR. Emergency responders arrived and determined that the man was dead, the sheriff's office said.
The investigation revealed that the man was attempting a high-risk skiing stunt by trying to clear the width of Highway 40. He didn't have the speed and distance he needed, and he landed on the pavement. He was wearing a helmet and other protective gear, according to the release.
The Grand County Coroner's Office identified the man as Dallas LeBeau, who lived in Gilpin County.
