Parrish was killed in the line of duty while responding to a disturbance call on Dec. 31, 2017.

The public overwhelmingly voted to name the park in his honor and pay tribute to his sacrifice, along with the work of all police officers and firefighters. Lighted steel columns, a reflective garden and a glowing blue concrete band are just some of the memorial features that will pay homage to public safety personnel.

A Highlands Ranch post office was also renamed to honor Parrish. In April, the post office at 9609 S. University Blvd. became the Deputy Sheriff Zackari Spurlock Parrish, III, Post Office Building.
