Woman dies after fall at Colorado National Monument

A witness reported that the woman fell 50-60 feet while hiking.

MESA COUNTY, Colo. — A hiker died Wednesday after falling 50-60 feet at Colorado National Monument, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.

Around 10:20 a.m., deputies and a team of search and rescue volunteers responded to the fall in the area of Rough Canyon Lemon Squeezer on the Colorado National Monument. The caller reported that a woman had fallen 50-60 feet. 

The Grand Junction Fire Department also responded and attempted to save the 41-year-old woman but she died from her injuries. The woman's name is not being released until next of kin have been notified.
