PARIS, France — In women’s soccer, the traditionally dominant U.S. team might seem like the team to beat, but captain Lindsey Horan said they have a lot to prove at the Summer Olympics.
“I think the rest of the world has no idea, you know, what we're capable of right now,” Horan said.
In 2016, the U.S. women’s team was favored to take gold at the Olympics in Rio but had a shocking elimination early in the Games. In Tokyo, they made it to the medal round but lost to Canada and ended up with bronze.
“Being able to be a part of this kind of like new era, this new chapter for the National Team, I think it’s a good opportunity for us,” Shaw said.
They have a new championship-winning head coach with Emma Haze. Horan said it's a new opportunity to show the world what the best team in soccer can do.
“You want to dominate, and it's the United States of America,” Horan said. “I think we're winners, and we want to be on that podium at the end of the day.”
