One member of U.S. shooting team uses 3D printer to build custom parts for his teammates

Nick Mower isn’t just one of the best air pistol athletes around, he’s pretty good at helping his teammates should parts break and fall off their gear.

PARIS, France — Among all the athletes at the 2024 Summer Olympics, you can bet those with USA Shooting have some of the most specialized gear for their air pistols and air rifles.

Thanks to air pistol shooter Nick Mower – a two-time Olympian from Butte, Montana – that includes custom-built pellet cases.

“Customize logos for different people on the team, “ Mower said. “They have their own logos on team stuff so if I can help out like that.”

Mower spends his free time working on designs with his 3D printer. When a part breaks off an air pistol or air rifle, he gets to work replacing it.

“I like to 3D print things in my free time,” Mower said. “Anything that we need: butt plate, accessories, cheek pieces. A lot of the sport is customized pieces and parts.”

In fact, in many cases, Mower can help his team faster than if they ordered the parts, building accessories fast and in time for competitions worldwide.

“Help out the rest of the team and make stuff that is sturdy high-quality and give us a cutting-edge advantage of the competition," Mower said.
