Colorado athletes to watch at the Olympics on Thursday

3x3 basketball group play continues with two games for the U.S. men's team, and Wyndham Clark plays in the first round of Olympic golf.

PARIS, France — Denver native Wyndham Clark starts Olympics competition Thursday in the first round of the golfing competition, while the 3x3 basketball team continues with pool play.

Here are the Colorado athletes to cheer on Thursday in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

3x3 basketball

The U.S. men’s 3x3 basketball team plays their third and fourth games in the pool round against Lithuania and Latvia. They lost their second game Wednesday to Poland, 17-19.

Canyon Barry is from Colorado Springs and went to Cheyenne Mountain High School. Both of his parents, Lynn Norenberg Barry and Rick Barry, played basketball for Team USA. Canyon’s 3x3 team won first place at the 2023 Pan American Games.

Jimmer Fredette is from Glenn Falls, New York, and now lives in Littleton. He was the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and played for seven seasons in the NBA. He was part of the first US Olympic Men’s 3x3 team.

Golf

Wyndham Clark, of Denver, started playing golf at age 3 when his mother took him to a driving range. He won the Colorado State Golf Championship twice while in high school, then went on to win the Pac-12 Conference Championship in 2016 while at the University of Oregon. In 2023, he became the U.S. Open champion.

This is his first Olympics.

Tennis

Rajeev Ram, originally from Denver, is a former world No. 1 and is competing in doubles with another former No. 1, Austin Krajicek. He’s a three-time Olympian and won silver at the 2016 Rio Games in mixed doubles. His current hometown of Carmel, Ind., named a street temporarily in his honor.

In the quarter finals Wednesday, Rajeev and Krajicek defeated Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal of Spain. They take on Tomas Machac and Adam Pavlasek of Czechoslovakia in the semi-finals Thursday.
