NEW YORK — Snoop Dogg plans to make the Paris Olympics "the most epic Olympics ever" as a regular part of NBC's coverage of the games this summer.
The rapper, actor and cannabis connoisseur will be on site in Paris "bringing that Snoop style" to the Olympic Primetime Show hosted by Mike Tirico starting on the day of the opening ceremony, July 26, on both the NBC broadcast network and its streaming partner Peacock.
Snoop will give his take on the events and "explore the city’s iconic landmarks, attend Olympic competitions and events, and visit with the athletes, their friends, and families," according to NBC.
NBC made the official announcement during the Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers Sunday Night Football game on New Year's Eve. In a promotional video for the Paris Olympics, Snoop is joined by Team USA athletes Suni Lee, A'ja Wilson, Jagger Eaton, Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes. It ends with the "Gin and Juice" rapper telling them he'll see them in Paris.
“I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris. It’s a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness,” Snoop Dogg said in a statement. “We’re going to have some amazing competitions and, of course, I will be bringing that Snoop style to the mix."
Snoop isn't new to Olympics commentary: His commentary on Peacock during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics generated "tens of millions of views," according to NBC Olympics Production.
“That performance alone has earned Snoop a job as our Special Correspondent in Paris. We don’t know what the heck is going to happen every day, but we know he will add his unique perspective to our re-imagined Olympic primetime show," said Molly Solomon, executive producer and president of NBC Olympics Production, in a statement.
NBC has promised to air every event live on Peacock for the 2024 Paris Olympics. NBC will have at least nine hours of weekday daytime coverage, expanding to at least 11 hours on weekends. With Paris six hours ahead of New York, the marquee finals will air live in the morning or late afternoon.
