PORTLAND, Ore. — U.S. women's gymnastics team member and local star Jade Carey competed in her second Olympic games on Sunday — but not at full strength.

The Oregon State gymnast had a heartbreaking fall during her floor routine among several other uncharacteristic mistakes. Carey finished the day last out of all floor competitors and will not have the chance to defend her title as the reigning gold medalist on floor from the 2021 Tokyo Games.

Following the qualifying session, Carey posted on X "I haven't been feeling the best the past few days but I gave it everything I had today."

Despite her floor routine, Carey bounced back on vault where she will have her redemption in the final with teammate Simone Biles. Carey successfully boasted an average of 14.433 in the qualifier, currently placing her second behind Biles with a score of 15.300.

The women's team final is Tuesday, July 30, and the women's vault final is set for Saturday, Aug. 3.
