Paris Olympics | Colorado athletes to watch on Saturday

Team USA is in the gold medal games in men's basketball and women's soccer at the Paris Games.

PARIS, France — In the last full day of competition at the Paris Games, Colorado athletes play in gold medal games in men’s basketball and women’s soccer.

Here are the Colorado athletes to cheer on Saturday at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Basketball

In the men’s basketball gold medal game, Team USA plays France. In the bronze medal game, Serbia plays Germany.

Derrick White, from Parker, plays on the U.S. team, and Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic plays for his native Serbia.

This is Jokic’s second Olympics. In the 2016 Rio Games, he led Serbia to a silver medal, coming in second to Team USA.

White played three seasons at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and one season at the University of Colorado Boulder. He now plays for the Boston Celtics. This is his first Olympics.

Soccer

The U.S. women’s soccer team takes on Brazil in the gold medal game.

Three Colorado players are on the team: captain Lindsey Horan, of Golden; Mallory Swanson, of Highlands Ranch, and Sophia Smith, of Windsor.

Horan went to Golden High School and played for the Colorado Rush club. She now lives in Lyon, France, where she plays for the city’s soccer team. She’s the captain of the U.S. Women’s National Team. This is her third Olympics.

Swanson, who attended Mountain Vista High School and plays for the Chicago Red Stars, missed the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to an injury. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, she was the youngest player on the team. This is her second Olympics.

Smith played soccer and basketball at Fossil Ridge High School, then attended Stanford University, where she played soccer for two seasons and helped her team to the 2019 NCAA Championship. She currently plays for the Portland Thorns. This is her first Olympics.

Sport climbing

Brooke Raboutou will compete Saturday in the finals of women’s combined in sport climbing.

Raboutou, of Boulder, went to Fairview High School. Both of Brooke’s parents are world champion climbers, and her brother is also a professional climber. This will be her second Olympics. She came in 5th in Tokyo. She was the first American climber to ever qualify for the Olympics.

Wrestling

Kyle Snyder will compete in the men’s freestyle 97 kg on Saturday.

Snyder graduated from Coronado High School in Colorado Springs and currently lives in State College, Pennsylvania. He won gold at the 2016 Olympics in Rio and silver at the Tokyo Olympics. In 2015, he was the youngest American wrestler to ever win a world championship. He’s been on the USA Wrestling Team for 10 consecutive years.

After the round of 16, the quarterfinals are at 4:10 a.m. and the semifinals are at 10:35 a.m.
