PARIS, France — The U.S. women's soccer team takes on Germany in the semifinal game on Tuesday, while the U.S. men's basketball and women's volleyball teams are in the quarterfinals.
Here are the Colorado athletes to cheer for on Tuesday at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Basketball
In the men’s basketball quarterfinals, Team USA plays Brazil, and Serbia plays Australia.
Derrick White, from Parker, plays on the U.S. team, and Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic plays for his native Serbia.
This is Jokic’s second Olympics. In the 2016 Rio Games, he led Serbia to a silver medal, coming in second to Team USA.
White played three seasons at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and one season at the University of Colorado Boulder. He now plays for the Boston Celtics. This is his first Olympics.

Cycling
Chloe Dygert and Jen Valente team up with Lily Williams and Kristen Faulkner on Tuesday for the women’s track team pursuit qualifications.
Dygert, who lives in Colorado Springs, won a bronze medal in the individual time trial event earlier in these Games. She’s a two-time Olympic medalist in 4 km team pursuit: she won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Games and silver at the 2016 Rio Games.
Valente is from San Diego, but now lives in Colorado Springs. She’s a four-time world champion in track cycling. This will be her third Olympics. She won silver in team pursuit in Rio, gold in omnium in Tokyo and bronze in team pursuit in Tokyo.

Soccer
The U.S. women’s soccer team takes on Germany in the semifinals.
The U.S. women’s soccer team plays Japan on Saturday in the quarterfinals. Three Colorado players are on the team: captain Lindsey Horan, of Golden; Mallory Swanson, of Highlands Ranch, and Sophia Smith, of Windsor.
The bronze medal game will be Friday and the gold medal game on Saturday.

Sport climbing
Brooke Raboutou and Natalia Grossman will compete Tuesday in the women’s combined in sport climbing.
Grossman, of Santa Cruz, California, went to the University of Colorado Boulder. She now lives in Salt Lake City. She started climbing at 6 years old. She won gold at the Pan American Games in Santiago in 2023, which qualified her for the Olympics.
Raboutou, of Boulder, went to Fairview High School. Both of Brooke’s parents are world champion climbers, and her brother is also a professional climber. This will be her second Olympics. She came in 5th in Tokyo. She was the first American climber to ever qualify for the Olympics.

Track and field
Yared Nuguse will compete Tuesday in the finals for the men’s 1,500 meters. He is originally from Louisville, Kentucky, and currently lives in Boulder. In 2019, he was the NCAA D1 champion in the 1,500 m. He came in second at the Olympic trials, the first time he had lost to an American since 2022. Fun fact: Nuguse can solve a Rubik’s cube in 33 seconds.
Valerie Constein, of Edwards, is making a comeback in the 3,000 meter steeplechase after having ACL surgery a year ago. She started running again in September, then really training in December. She attended the University of Colorado Boulder and currently lives in Boulder. She can play the piano and French horn and was in her high school’s pep band.

Volleyball
The U.S. women’s volleyball team will play Poland in the quarterfinals.
Two players with Colorado ties are on the roster: Haleigh Washington and Jordyn Poulter.
Washington, of Colorado Springs, led Doherty High School to the state title in 2012 and Penn State to the NCAA Division I title in 2014. She started her professional career in Italy in 2018 and is now on the U.S. Women’s National Team. This is her second Olympics. She was named the best middle blocker in Tokyo.
Poulter went to Eaglecrest High School in Aurora. She has competed in every major tournament for the U.S. and this is her second Olympics. She was named best setter at the Tokyo Olympics. In her free time, she is an aspiring filmmaker and plays the piano and guitar.

Wrestling
Amit Elor – whose current residences are Walnut Creek, California, and Colorado Springs – is in the gold medal final for women’s freestyle 68 kg wrestling on Tuesday. She has won nine gold World Championship medals. Her older sister and older brother were also wrestlers. They both won junior national titles, which inspired her to start wrestling.
Sarah Hildebrandt is from Granger, Indiana, but currently lives in Colorado Springs. She competes in 50 kg women’s wrestling. She won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics; four medals at the World Wrestling Championships, and gold at the Pan American Games in 2019. She was disappointed with her Tokyo Games finish and said she is ready to go for gold in Paris.
Kamal Bey is competing in the men’s 77 kg Greco-Roman wrestling. He’s originally from Oak Park, Illinois, and lives in Colorado Springs. Bey dropped out of high school to move to Colorado Springs and train at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center. He’s currently ranked No. 1 on Team USA. This is his first Olympics.
