Here's how Colorado ranks among states in number of athletes on Team USA

DENVER — Colorado is known for its winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, but the state is also home to plenty of Team USA athletes who are going to the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.

About 600 U.S. athletes will compete in the 2024 Olympics in 32 sports and more than 300 events.

As of the opening ceremony, 29 Olympic and Paralympic athletes have their hometown in Colorado, according to Team USA. That ranks the state No. 7 for the most 2024 Olympic athletes on Team USA.

The town or city in Colorado that boasts the most U.S. athletes is Colorado Springs, with eight. The city is also home to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center.

Denver, Boulder and Highlands Ranch are home to three Team USA athletes each, followed by Littleton and Aurora, with two each.

The 10 states with the most 2024 Team USA athletes going to the Summer Games are:

  1. California: 143
  2. Florida: 46
  3. Texas: 44
  4. Illinois: 39
  5. Pennsylvania: 35
  6. New York: 31
  7. Colorado: 29 
  8. Georgia: 27
  9. Indiana: 24
  10. Maryland: 24

After that, the rankings are:

There are only two states with no Team USA athletes at all: Wyoming and North Dakota.
