Colorado athletes to watch Saturday at the Olympics

Taylor Knibb and Chloe Dygert compete in individual time trials in road cycling, and the U.S. men's soccer team takes on New Zealand.

PARIS, France — Several Colorado athletes compete Saturday at the Paris Olympics as competition really gets going the day after the opening ceremony.

Sports with competition on Saturday are badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, canoeing, cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, field hockey, gymnastics, handball, judo, rowing, rugby, shooting, skateboarding, soccer, surfing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball and water polo.

Below are the sports in which Colorado athletes are competing on Saturday and how to watch so you can cheer them on.

Cycling

Two Colorado cyclists will compete in road cycling in individual time trials on Saturday morning.

Chloe Dygert, who lives in Colorado Springs, is a two-time Olympic medalist in 4km team pursuit: she won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Games and silver at the 2106 Rio Games. She’s also on Team USA’s track cycling team.

Taylor Knibb, who lives in Boulder, is a silver medalist from the 2020 Games in the mixed relay event in triathlon. She competed in her first time trial in 2023 at the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championship and placed fourth, then came back and won the event this year, earning her spot on Team USA’s cycling team. She’s also on the U.S. triathlon team.

Men’s basketball

Denver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray is on the Canadian men’s basketball team, which has their first game against Greece. Murray is from Kitchener, Ontario, and also played for Team Canada in the 2015 Toronto Games, when Canada won the silver.

Boxing

Jajaira Gonzalez is a native of Glendora, California, and lives in Colorado Springs. The 60 kg boxer won gold at the Junior World Championships in 2013 and the World Youth Championships in 2014 and 2015. After stepping away for her mental health, she returned to the sport at the 2021 Elite National Championships and took gold. She also had a top four finish at the 2023 Pan American Games.

Tennis

Rajeev Ram, who was originally from Denver, is a former world No. 1 and is competing in doubles with another former No. 1, Austin Krajicek. He’s a three-time Olympian and won silver at the 2016 Rio Games in doubles - mixed. His current hometown of Carmel, Ind., named a street temporarily in his honor.

U.S. men’s soccer

The U.S. men’s soccer team takes on New Zealand in the second game of group play, after dropping their first game 3-0 to France.

Colorado Rapids midfielder Djordje Mihailovic is on the roster. Mihailovic, who’s originally from Jacksonville, Florida, now lives in the Denver metro area. He previously played for Chicago Fire FC and in Montreal and the Netherlands. This is his first Olympics
