PARIS, France — Friday marks the start of Olympic track and field competition, and a Colorado rower goes for gold.
Here are the Colorado athletes to cheer for on Friday at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
3x3 basketball
The U.S. men’s 3x3 basketball team plays their fifth and sixth games in the pool round against Franch and China. They lost their third and fourth games Thursday to Lithuania (20-18) and Latvia (21-19).
Canyon Barry is from Colorado Springs and went to Cheyenne Mountain High School. Both of his parents, Lynn Norenberg Barry and Rick Barry, played basketball for Team USA. Canyon’s 3x3 team won first place at the 2023 Pan American Games.
Jimmer Fredette is from Glenn Falls, New York, and now lives in Littleton. He was the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and played for seven seasons in the NBA. He was part of the first US Olympic Men’s 3x3 team.

Basketball
Denver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray is on the Canadian men’s basketball team, which plays their third game Friday against Spain. The Canadians won their second game of group play against Australia, 93-83.
Murray is from Kitchener, Ontario, and also played for Team Canada in the 2015 Toronto Games, when Canada won the silver.

Golf
Wyndham Clark, of Denver, was sitting in 56th after the first round on Thursday.
He started playing golf at age 3 when his mother took him to a driving range. He won the Colorado State Golf Championship twice while in high school, then went on to win the Pac-12 Conference Championship in 2016 while at the University of Oregon. In 2023, he became the U.S. Open champion.
This is his first Olympics.

Rowing
Jessica Thoennes, from Highlands Ranch, and her partner Azja Czajkowski qualified on Wednesday for the finals in women’s pair rowing.
Thoennes was a walk-on to the University of Washington rowing team. She won in pairs rowing at the 2024 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team Trials with Czajkowski. This is her second games after her women’s eight boats finished two seconds behind the bronze medalists at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Track and Field
Track and field starts on Friday, and three athletes with Colorado ties are competing.
Valarie Allman, who competes in discus, Allman spent most of her childhood in Hershey, Pennsylvania, before moving to Longmont. She was the co-valedictorian at Silver Creek High School. She’s taking a leave of absence in her master's in communication program at Stanford University to train. She won gold in Tokyo. This will be her second Olympics.
Woody Kincaid, of Littleton, went to Columbine High School and the University of Portland. He currently lives in Flagstaff, Arizona. He competes in the 10,000m, and this will be his second Olympics. He came in 14th in the 5,000m and 15th in the 10,000m in the Tokyo Olympics.
Yared Nuguse is originally from Louisville, Kentucky, and currently lives in Boulder. In 2019, he was the NCAA D1 champion in the 1,500m. He came in second at the Olympic trials, the first time he had lost to an American since 2022. Fun fact: Nuguse can solve a Rubik’s cube in 33 seconds.
Elise Cranny, of Niwot, currently lives in Boulder. She's competing in the women's 5,000m. In high school, Cranny won two state cross country championships and two state track titles. This will be her second Olympics. She came in 13th in Tokyo in the 5000m.
