Missy Franklin wants to come back stronger than ever

The eight weeks since Rio have given Missy Franklin time to decompress after what she calls a “heartbreaking” Olympics.

Olympian Missy Franklin caught up with 9NEWS Anchor Cheryl Preheim to talk about life since a disappointing outing in Rio.

The eight weeks since Rio have given Missy Franklin time to decompress after what she calls a “heartbreaking” Olympics.

She’s back at Cal-Berkeley taking classes and training with the men’s coach. Franklin said she wants to come back stronger than ever for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

“I’m 21 years old,” she said, “and there’s so much I want to do in my life both in and out of the pool.”

The five-time gold medalist is keeping busy.

This week, she’s launching a new Speedo swimsuit line.

“I picked out all the silhouettes, all the colors, all the designs,” Franklin said. “Absolutely everything. So it truly is my baby.”

Every suit has an inscription on the inside that reads “with strength and dignity” – something Franklin takes to heart.

She’s also busy working with a program called Safe Splash, which helps kids who can’t afford swim lessons learn about water safety.
