Avalanche forward named second star of the week

DENVER — Another week, another Colorado player named as one of the National Hockey League's (NHL) stars of the week.

Mikko Rantanen was named the league's second star of the week for the week ending on Nov. 24. Rantanen recorded seven points in three games last week as the Avalanche went 3-0.

Rantanen started the week with two assists, helping Colorado in a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Three days later he would score the game tying goal against the Washington Capitals as the Avalanche managed a 2-1 comeback win on Thursday. 

Rantanen finished the week strong with a four-point game in a 7-4 Colorado win over the Florida Panthers. That was his second four-point game of the season. Rantanen is fourth in the league with 32 points, three behind teammate Nathan MacKinnon. Rantanen is tied for third in the league for game-winning goals (4), tied for fourth in goals (14), tied for sixth in power-play goals (5), tied for sixth in power-play points (11) and tied for eighth in assists (18).

The NHL named Columbus Blue Jackets' defenseman Zach Werenski and Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Joseph Woll as the other two stars of the week.
