DENVER — The Colorado Avalanche has secured the team's first jersey patch sponsor in franchise history.

IMA Financial Group signed on to put its logo on the NHL team’s playing jerseys, the companies said Tuesday. The patch is visible on the right chest of each player's jersey, sewn on the home, away and alternate jerseys the team wears all season.

The patch debuted at the Avs season opener at home Oct. 12, where the team lost 6-4 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Denver-based insurance brokerage and wealth management company had already been the longtime official insurance brokerage and risk management partner of the Avs and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment before signing on as a jersey partner.

That history with IMA made the partnership a good fit, said Joe Sakic, Avs president of hockey operations, in a statement.

“We are excited to proudly wear IMA on our sweater as we pair two legacy Denver brands on and off the ice,” Sakic said. “IMA’s passion for their customers and our city is the perfect fit for the Avalanche brand and our fan base.”
