MONTREAL, QC — Monday night's Colorado Avalanche win came with a cost.
Colorado kicked off its four-game road trip with a dominant 8-4 victory over the Montreal Canadiens, but suffered another key injury as forward Artturi Lehkonen left the game with a broken finger.
According to head coach Jared Bednar, Lehkonen will travel with the team to Toronto where he will then depart to return to Denver and have surgery.
The Avalanche have road games against the Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings this week.
"Overall really happy with the game even though it came at a cost tonight with losing Lehkonen," Bednar said. "We'll have to see."
Bednar said a timetable on Lehkonen's return was unclear. Lehkonen was playing in a 'homecoming' type game against his old team, who suited up for the Canadiens for the first six seasons of his NHL career.
