DENVER — Reactions are pouring in on social media after news broke that Sean Payton would serve as the next Denver Broncos head coach.
The trade compensation with the New Orleans Saints include Denver's 2023 first-round (No. 29) pick and next year's second-round pick. In exchange, Denver will receive Sean Payton and the Saints' 2024 third-round pick.
The selection of Payton ended a long and meticulous search that had its share of unexpected twists and turns.
It began Dec. 26, when Penner fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett with two games left in the season and the Broncos possessing a disappointing 4-11 record that was stamped with a humiliating 51-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day.
The Broncos' new head coach is the team's sixth head coach in 10 seasons, following John Fox, Gary Kubiak, Vance Joseph, Vic Fangio and Hackett in that span.
