The Denver Broncos defeated the Atlanta Falcons 34-19 in Super Bowl XXXIII on January 31, 1999. The win marked Denver’s second world championship and was the final game of John Elway’s career.
Elway, who now serves as the Broncos’ general manager, finished the game 18-29 for 336 passing yards with one touchdown pass and one interception. Elway also rushed for a touchdown.
Running back Terrell Davis rushed 25 times for 102 yards, earning a second ring that helped him reach the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year.
One year prior to defeating the Falcons, Denver defeated the Green Bay Packers 31-24 in Super Bowl XXXII. Those Broncos teams that won back-to-back championships in 1998 and 1999 were arguably among the best in NFL history, certainly in franchise history.
Denver won another Super Bowl in 2016, defeating the Carolina Panthers 24-10 in Super Bowl 50. That marked Peyton Manning’s final game.
Elway will now look to pursue a fourth Super Bowl ring by guiding the Broncos’ back to the biggest stage in American sports.
