CENTENNIAL, Colo. — As the Walton-Penner ownership group continues to reshape the Denver Broncos, its impact on a league level is growing in just its third season of ownership.
Several days after speaking on behalf of NFL owners at a press conference in Minnesota following the approval of private equity investments in franchises, Broncos owner and CEO Greg Penner has been named to his fourth league committee — the NFL’s Finance Committee — per a league source.
Penner had already been serving on the NFL’s Compensation, Business Ventures and Special Ownership committees before adding this fourth such assignment.
Including Owner Carrie Walton Penner’s two NFL Committee assignments of her own — the NFL Foundation and DEI Committees — the Walton-Penner group will have a presence on six league committees, a testament to its growing NFL involvement.
Given Penner’s financial and business experience in the corporate world — he’s been chairman of Walmart since 2015, founded the investment firm, Madrone Capital Partners and serves as a financial analyst for Goldman Sachs — it only makes sense for the NFL to lean into his knowledge on financial and business-related committees.
His experience figures to help the NFL during a time of unprecedented growth and revenue for the league.
Penner’s latest NFL Committee assignment came one day after he, Carrie Walton Penner and the Broncos broke ground last Thursday on a $175 million training facility set to open in 2026.
The Broncos kick off the 2024 season Sunday in Seattle against the Seahawks.
