DENVER — Denver Broncos superfan Kerry Green, well-known in Colorado for wearing an outfit of orange pom-poms to games, has passed away.

Green died Sunday after an illness, according to a Facebook post and GoFundMe for his family.

Green was part of a pair of dedicated fans at Broncos games in Denver, easily spotted with outfits made up of hundreds of orange pom-poms. Green and his son became known as the "Mile High Monsters."

"Unbelievably difficult to say goodbye to Monster 1, Kerry Green who passed a few hours before kickoff on Sunday. He was a caring neighbor and friend, amazing father to us, a fantastic grandfather to two young Broncos superfans, and a loving husband," reads a post on the Mile High Monsters' Facebook.

"If you ever met him at a Broncos game in the last 16 years or in 'real life' you knew a warm, welcoming man that cared more about you having a good time over anything else.

"As a 2nd generation season ticket holder with tickets in our family since 1965, the Broncos were central to his life, but he left plenty of room for camping, boating, gardening, helping neighbors and spending as much time with his family as he could," the post reads.

"We're saddened to hear of the passing of Kerry Green, a long-time season ticket member most famously known as the iconic Mile High Monster," said a statement from the Broncos.

"It is with great sadness we share the loss of the Broncos greatest fan. Kerry and his son Wes have been the Mile High Monsters for the past 15 years," said the GoFundMe for Green's family.

"Kerry was a lifelong season ticket holder and has never missed a home game since donning the pom-poms. He was able to make it to San Francisco for the Broncos last championship in Super Bowl 50. A dedicated Broncos fan, many have wonderful memories shared with Kerry supporting his favorite team.

"Kerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and neighbor who will always hold a special place in our hearts.  Any support to his memorial services are greatly appreciated. Kerry leaves behind a legacy of love for the Broncos and his family."
