INDIANAPOLIS — A source close to NFL rookie prospect Laviska Shenault Jr. confirmed to 9NEWS that the former University of Colorado receiver will undergo core-muscle surgery Tuesday.
The news comes after Shenault posted a disappointing 4.58-second time in the 40-yard dash Thursday night at the NFL Combine -- tied for 33rd-best among receivers. Shenault pulled from his second heat.
The injury nagged Shenault during his recently completed junior season when his production fell to 56 catches for 764 yards and 4 touchdowns in 11 games -- down from his superb sophomore season in which he had 86 catches for 1,011 yards and 6 touchdowns in two less games and also had five rushing touchdowns.
The surgery will prevent Shenault from participating in CU's Pro Day on March 11, and may cost him to drop to the second round of the NFL Draft in late-April.
At his Combine press conference Tuesday, Shenault said of his injury: "I'm still not there, but I mean, I had to do a lot of training for this combine."
He trained only for the 40 hoping to show scouts satisfactory speed. It didn't work out.
