DENVER, Iowa — If you can't have enough Mustiphers, you at least should have one.
The Broncos are adding veteran center Sam Mustipher on a one-year deal, the team announced Thursday. Mustipher, 27, is the older brother of P.J. Mustipher, a defensive lineman who spent most of last season with the Broncos as an undrafted rookie on their practice squad until he was signed away by the New Orleans Saints. P.J. Mustipher is now with the Eagles.
Sam Mustipher was undrafted out of Notre Dame when he signed with the Bears in 2019. He spent his rookie season on their practice squad before an injury opened an opportunity for him in 2020. He wound up starting 7 games as a rookie, then 33 of a possible 34 games in the 2021-2022 seasons.
The Bears did not submit a restricted free-agent tender on Mustipher prior to the 2023 season and he wound up signing with the Baltimore Ravens, where he played in 9 games with two starts.
Mustipher provides veteran insurance at the center position where the untested Luke Wattenberg and Alex Forsyth are expected to compete for the job. Wattenberg was a Broncos' fifth-round draft pick out of Washington in 2022 and Forsyth was a seventh-round draft pick out of Oregon last year.
