DENVER — On Monday, the Denver Broncos notified quarterback Russell Wilson that he will be released.
While the Broncos and Wilson have parted ways, Denver still owes Wilson $39 million next season. That might seem like a lot of money (and it is), but how else can we quantify what Wilson will get from the Broncos next season?
Wilson's $39 million could be spent the following ways:
- 4/5 of a season of Nikola Jokić ($47.6 million per year)*
- 1.5 seasons of Kris Bryant ($26 million per year)*
- 3 seasons of Nathan MacKinnon ($12.6 million per year)*
- 1.39 seasons of the Colorado Avalanche defensemen (7 players at $28 million per year)*
- Nearly 21.6 seasons of Kévin Cabral ($1.8 million per year)*
- About 1 Casa Bonita reopened after renovations (about $40 million, according to The New York Times)
*The numbers listed for player salaries were the most recent base salaries paid before any bonuses.
The Broncos essentially have paid Wilson $124 million for two years of service and 11 wins ($11.2 million per win).
