ENGLEWOOD, Colo — Matt LaFleur gave it away.
The Green Bay Packers head coach revealed during his OTA press conference Tuesday his team and the Denver Broncos will hold a single joint practice in the days prior to their Aug. 18 preseason game at Empower Field at Mile High.
It will be the 15th joint practice with another team in Broncos' history with 10 coming in the past 11 years, the exception being the pandemic season of 2020 when there was no preseason.
LaFleur also revealed the Packers would hold a joint practice prior to their preseason game Aug. 24 against the Baltimore Ravens.
Once LaFleur got out in front of the joint practice announcement, the Broncos confirmed it by adding fans would be allowed to watch even though construction on the new practice facility could be underway. Get there early -- no fan base travels like the Packer Backers, although the Broncos did go to a ticket system with their training camp practices starting last year.
The exact date of the joint practice has not yet been set other than it will be either Thursday or Friday prior to the Sunday preseason game.
In the past 10 years, the Broncos have held a joint practice with a preseason opponent each season except the COVID season of 2020. The others: Rams (2023), Cowboys (2022), Vikings (2021), 49ers (2019), Bears (2018), 49ers (2015-17) and Texans (2014).
The Broncos and Packers met in the regular season last season with P.J. Locke intercepting a Jordan Love pass with 1:40 remaining to preserve Denver's 19-17 win.
House matter
Newly acquired Broncos defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers was excused from the first week of OTAs for personal reasons, a source confirmed to 9NEWS. Before his April 29 trade from the Jets, Franklin-Myers and his wife had plans to move into their new home in the Dallas area, but the home recently flooded. Franklin-Myers is dealing with his home crisis this week but will join the Broncos for the second week of OTAs next week.
